ETN

European Transplant Network

The ETN iniciative has been established in 2004 as a result of the Prague Declaration of Ministers of Health of some old EU member states and newly acceding countries. At present the seat of ETN is in Rome. The main purpose of ETN is setting up closer co-laboration in transplantation medicine, sharing experience, and assisting the countries with less developed transplantation programmes. ETN member states can utilize the services of joint coordinating center called the Gate to Europe. Within the frameworks of ETN KST has signed agreements on closer cooperation with its counterparts in Poland, Hungary and Italy. ETN members are: Austria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, and Slovakia. ETN is also supported by the Council of Europe and the WHO, whereas some founding members significantly cut their activity having joined the EU.

EOEO - European Organ Exchange Organizations

EOEO has been established in 2004 by coordinating bodies of ten European states who expressed their common interests in a joint Agreement adopted in Cascais, Portugal. The EOEO members are transplantation organizations of France, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Sapin, Switzerland, the UK, as well as supranational Eurotransplant and Scandiatransplant. KST has became a member in 2006. EOEO strives for setting high standards of quality, safety and traceability in the course of procurement and exchange of organs for transplantation.

DOPKI

Improving the Knowledge and Practices in Organ Donation

DOPKI is one of the projects financed by the European Commission within the frameworks of the e-TEN program. This project gathers 12 organizations and institutions with the aim of improving the overall level of knowledge and practical skills in the field of transplantation medicine. The Comission has entrusted the Spanish National Transplantation Organization with leadership of the project. The main purpose is to introduce widely some of the mechanisms of so called Spanish model, thanks to which Spain holds the position of the absolute world´s leader in the number of transplantations. KST is one of the founding partners of the project, with Motol Faculty Hospital and Kralovske Vinohrady Faculty Hospital Prague participating in the work of the project as well.

European Registry on Organs, Cells and Tissues

EUROCET

European Registry on Organs, Cells and Tissues

EUROCET is a project within the e-TEN programme financed by the European Commission. The project team consists of 20 organizations from 12 european countries in total. The goal of the project is to unify transplantation terminology and methodology in order to be able to create an unified database for further gathering, processing and utilizing information on medical, clinical and demographic aspects of donation and transplantation. Such a paneuropean database, when finalized and then continuously fed with relevant data, will contribute to better utilization of the potential of transplantation medicine in all participating countries. KST joined the project in 1 September, 2005.

Mutual Organ Donation and Transplantation Exchanges: Improving and developing cadaveric organ donation and transplantation programs

The European Commission has adopted the Action plan on Organ Donation and Transplantation with the main goal to strengthen cooperation between Member States. The MODE Project is to revise best-practices in donation and transplantation in individual countries, presenting them to other countries in order to improve the level of their transplantation medicine. KST conducted an analysis of weak and strong issues in donation and transplantation medicine of the Partners, and organized a series of on-site visits with the aim of explaining particular best-practices, sharing know-how and transferring experience.

Coordinating European Transplantation Initiative among National Organizations for Organ

Project COORENOR has been started in April 2010 with the duration planned for 30 months. Its mail goal is strengthening international cooperation in exchange of organs for transplantation. KST was put in charge of a key part of the Project, within the framework of which it will first carry out an analysis of transplant legislation of individual countries, followed by creating an internet portal enabling Partner Countries a quick and effective offer of organs which have no suitable recipient in the country of origin or, on the other hand, a demand for the most suitable organs for patients being in acute life jeopardy.
